Alex is an experienced Counsellor and Coach, with extensive experience in both individual and group sessions, in areas like Addictions, ADHD and interpersonal problems. He has a special interest in 'Adult Children of Alcoholics/Dysfunctional Families'. He is currently completing his training in EMDR therapy, and working towards his certification as an Accredited Schema Therapist.
Alex believes in leveraging on one’s unique strengths and motivation to evoke long-lasting change. He typically blends a mix of insight-building and change interventions during sessions. His counselling approach includes experiential, acceptance-based and emotional-focused techniques, and builds on his thorough training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Schema Therapy and EMDR Therapy (part 1).
At Colourfully, he supports adults experiencing interpersonal difficulties (on the social, employment, romantic or family side), fluctuating moods, depressive, angry or anxious states. He also works with professionals or students willing to improve their productivity and well-being. He provides coaching for Executive Functioning.
Alex holds a Master degree in Counselling from Monash University, and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology from National University of Singapore (NUS). He is also a Certified Substance Abuse Counsellor (CSAC) under the Association of Professional Specialising in Addictions Counselling (APSAC). He is a registered SMART Recovery Facilitator and ‘Family & Friends’ Facilitator. On the coaching side, Alex is trained at Associate Certified Coach (ACC) level.
His career spans over more than twelve years in Human Resources and Counselling, across corporate companies, public service, and community services for vulnerable communities.
Alex is also a Crossfit fan and an avid bullet journalist.
